PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi assured that the club is adhering to the financial fair play guidelines during the press conference where Messi was unveiled as the French club’s newest player. Al-Khelaifi stated:
Regarding the financial aspect, I will make it clear – we know the rules of FFP and we will always follow the regulations. Before we do anything, we check with commercial, financial and legal people. We have the capacity. If we sign Leo, it’s because we can, otherwise we would not have done it.
In addition, the PSG chief said that Messi would bring a lot to the table, referring to him as a “big asset.”
$PSG fan token surges as Messi joins club
Following the news on Messi joining PSG, the club’s fan token began to surge. The cryptocurrency added 10.57 percent, reaching an intraday high of $41.90. Before now, $PSG Fan Token soared to its all-time high on the 10th of August with news that Messi was about to sign a two-year contract with the French club.
While delivering his farewell speech at FC Barcelona on the 8th of August, Messi hinted that moving to PSG was a possibility for him. He, however, clarified that the deal was not confirmed at the time. Since the public address, the value of a PSG token has been adored by investors.
At the time of writing, the token has been correcting. The $PSG Fan Token is down 5.74 percent to $40.34. Ranked 317, the cryptocurrency has also lost nearly 49 percent in its 24-hour trading volume. However, $PSG has gained about 114 percent in its market valuation.
PSG is one of a number of European clubs that have embraced the crypto movement. Other clubs like Inter Milan, Manchester City, Barcelona, Juventus, and others also belong to the movement. PSG announced its partnership with blockchain company Socios.com to allow support to purchase $PSG fan tokens in 2018. After this, the company became the “official branded cryptocurrency partner” of PSG.
