Litecoin was published by Charlie Lee in 2011 in the online service GitHub. Litecoin is regarded as the “silver” in the crypto market and little brother of Bitcoin. Litecoin was developed as a hard fork by Bitcoin and is also based on an open source encryption protocol. In the Litecoin network, fast transaction confirmations occur because the blocks are generated every 2.5 minutes and not every 10 minutes.
If you want to buy Litecoin because the price of Litecoin (if you click on this link, you can see the price of Litecoin in the chart) is promising, you are right here. We will explain how you can buy Litecoin easily, quickly and safely. We will introduce you to several ways in which you can invest in Litecoin. First of all, it is important to find a reputable Litecoin broker who offers the cryptocurrency at low trading fees.
This central question is: Do you want to keep your Litecoin yourself and have full control over your property? Or do you look for a simple solution and delegate the responsibility of the administration to a broker? If you don’t want to own “real” Litecoins, you can invest in Litecoin CFDs.
You should consider the following when answering this question: The basic idea of cryptocurrencies is to create a financial system without third parties and intermediaries (e.g. banks, credit institutions). Therefore, in our opinion, it is desirable to manage the Litecoin yourself, since only you have access to your assets via your private key. Cryptocurrency exchanges and brokers have the big disadvantage that they keep the Private Key for you. So you give up control over your asset.
But this is not the only disadvantage. In the past, stock exchanges and brokers have been victims of hacker attacks, with large amounts of cryptocurrencies being stolen. That’s why we think it’s safer to manage your Litecoin yourself. However, it can be complicated for beginners to set up and operate a desktop or hardware wallet.
Another possibility is to trade cryptocurrency CFDs. It is very important to know that you do not own the cryptocurrency, like LTC, but only hold the certificate (CFD) at a rising (long) or falling (short) price. On the basis of these preliminary considerations, we would like to make the following recommendations:
- If you want to own and manage Litecoin yourself, we recommend the broker Litebit.eu. There you can buy the Litecoin by Euro (SEPA, SOFORT, credit card, …). Then you can send the LTC to your wallet.
- If you want to invest in Litecoin, but are looking for a quick and easy solution because you don’t want to deal with the technical details (and therefore no control over the private key), you should buy LTC from the leading broker eToro.
- If you want to bet on a rising or falling Litecoin price with leverage, LTC CFDs might be the right choice for you. In this case you can also trade via eToro.
Below you’ll find the advantages and disadvantages of each.
**= Risk warning: 75% of retail CFD accounts lose money when trading CFDs from this provider.
Buy Litecoin at LiteBit
The first exchange we present is Litebit.eu. It was founded in 2013 and is based in the Netherlands. Over 50 cryptocurrencies are traded and managed on this recognized platform. Because the security standards and service are very good, many customers have been loyal to the platform for several years.
So far the site is available in Dutch, English, French and German. To create an account, simply open the website litebit.eu* and click on the button “Create Account”.
Then you enter the requested personal data, which are required as a result of the legal “Know your Customer” process. Then press “Create my account” and open the mail with the confirmation link in your e-mail program. Once you have opened it, your account is activated.
If your e-mail address is confirmed, you will automatically be redirected to the LiteBit homepage and can log in with your e-mail address and password via “Log in”.
Purchase limits for buying Litecoin at LiteBit
At this Litecoin exchange there are different verification levels, which limit how much money you can trade per day, week or month. The more information you reveal, the higher your verification level will be. So you can trade more money when you have moved up to a higher level in the verification process by releasing more personal information.
Your account is considered “Unverified” if you have only registered. Then you can trade up to €75 per day, €525 per week and a maximum of €2,100 per month on the trade every day. If you want to trade with 4.200€, the double amount, you have to be in the verification level one “Tier 1”. Verification of your phone number is required for this first stage. After you have entered them, you will receive a verification code by SMS, which must then be entered on the site of LiteBit.eu.
For the next level, “Tier 2”, you can submit a rental agreement, bank statement or invoice. The condition is that the document was created less than three months ago and that the address and name are visible next to the date. You can trade half a million euros by submitting an additional copy of your ID and advancing to level 3, “Tier 3”. Whether passport or identity card plays doesn’t matter. Both sides must be visible when scanning and can be sent to the website where the third and final stage is released.
The payment methods also have an influence on your trading ability. If you click on this link, you will be able to see exactly how the individual methods affect the purchase limit in addition to the levels. The following table gives you an overview of the respective verification levels and limits for the purchase of Litecoin:
In addition, there are various payment options which are also accompanied by corresponding limits. The following table gives a good overview:
|Unverified||Tier 1||Tier 2||Tier 3|
|iDeal||0.00 €||350.00 €||500.00 €||20,000.00 €|
|SEPA||0.00 €||250.00 €||500.00 €||35,000.00 €|
|Credits||0.00 €||350.00 €||500.00 €||10,000.00 €|
|Sofort||0.00 €||100.00 €||500.00 €||1,000.00 €|
|GiroPay||0.00 €||100.00 €||500.00 €||1,000.00 €|
|Bancontact||0.00 €||350.00 €||500.00 €||10,000.00 €|
Purchase process Litecoin on Litebit
The actual purchase process is very simple and can be started directly after successfully creating an account.To buy Litecoin, click on “Buy”. The Button is at the top right of the page. If you click on the Button, a page will open listing different cryptocurrencies. Now you can select Litecoin (LTC) with one click and enter the amount you want to purchase from this cryptocurrency. You can enter the desired amount in Euro or directly in LTC.
Now there are two different ways you can store Litecoin:
- If you want to use the Litebit Wallet, you have to select the “Litebit Wallet”, marked red in the screenshot. In this case Litebit will keep the Litecoin for you. With this you give Litebit the full responsibility for your Litecoin. In case of a exchange hack where your Litecoin is stolen, there is no deposit guarantee and your Litecoin is lost. To date Litebit has never been hacked, yet it is safer to store your Litecoin on an external wallet.
- If you want to use an external wallet, you have to select “External Wallet” in the purchase process, marked green in the screenshot. Now you have to enter your receiving address of your wallet. So-called hardware wallets offer the greatest security. In our hardware wallet test, find out which wallet is best for you. You can of course also use a desktop wallet, then enter the receiving address of your wallet.
If you want to use the LiteBit Wallet, you can click on “Use LiteBit Wallet” and do not have to enter the address yourself, as this happens automatically. Otherwise you enter the address yourself in the field. LiteBit already has a high level of security. Nevertheless, hackers have attacked in the past, stealing large amounts of money invested in cryptocurrencies (not from Litebit!). So if you want to further increase security, you can enable 2-factor authentication, which is more secure than using only the default login with email address and password.
If you have decided how you want to store your Litecoin, you can now choose a payment method. Very low fees apply for a bank transfer. Select “Sepa Bankwire” in the options.
If you choose this payment method, you can now click “Next”. In the next step you will be told to which bank account you have to transfer the amount.
It is important that you specify the specific purpose of use, referred to here as “Transaction Message”. Only then Litebit can assign your transaction in the system accordingly and will send your Litecoin to your wallet immediately. You can find the transaction message as shown in the screenshot.
In addition Litebit shows you a step-by-step sequence how you will receive your Litecoin and which steps have to be done in detail.
Create a Litecoin Desktop Wallet
On the crypto market there are countless Litecoin Wallet providers, so that here a serious Wallet must be selected. We have had very good experiences with the Exodus Wallet, therefore we will show you below how easy, fast and safe this Litecoin Wallet is to set up.
The Litecoin Exodus Wallet is a desktop wallet that offers medium protection and is especially suitable for beginners. This is due to the very simple and intuitive user interface as well as the large number of supported cryptocurrencies.
The first step is to visit the official Exodus website. Click on this link which will take you directly to the landing page where you can download the wallet. Depending on which operating system you are using on your computer, you will need to click on the correct download icon.
We have a Windows PC, so we click on the button “Download Windows App”. Then you have to install the software. This process should not take longer than 10 seconds.
If you have successfully installed the wallet, you will receive a notification that you can start the wallet now. When you start the Litecoin Wallet, you get to this dashboard:
Now click on Litecoin and then on “Receive”, here framed in red in the screenshot. Now you will see your Litecoin address. You can copy the address, print it out, send it by mail or view it in the Litecoin Explorer.
If you want to use the Exodus Wallet, you can now copy your Receive Address and paste it into Litebit. Note that you have to click on “External Wallet” and then insert this address.
Now you can complete the purchase normally as described above. If you are using another exchange, you have to specify this Receive Address as the receiving address.

Purchase limits on eToro for Litecoin

On the one hand the information is required by EU law and is helpful to increase your own security, on the other hand to prevent money laundering and other illegal activities. We recommend that you simply go through this process at the beginning, as you can then trade unlimited cryptocurrencies and other financial products. The following table shows the respective payment methods including the corresponding limits.

Buy Litecoin on eToro – 5 minutes guide
To buy LTC, go to “Trade Markets”, then to “Crypto” and select “Litecoin” from the 13 cryptocurrencies available.
The capital letters “B” for buy and “S” for sell now appear. Once you have clicked on the “B”, you can enter the amount you wish to purchase and then click on “Buy”.
The transaction takes only a few seconds and you have bought Litecoin quickly, safely and easily.
Buy Litecoin CFD’s on eToro
Buying Litecoin CFDs works almost the same as buying “real” Litecoins. But here you have to consider the following: When you open a BUY position for a cryptocurrency without leverage, you buy the actual cryptocurrency and no CFDs.Your investment in Litecoin will then be secured with the real asset. In simple terms, this means that eToro buys your LTC in your name and keeps it in a separate account under your name.
To buy LTC CFDs now, click “K” again to buy Litecoin CFDs. Now you get to the already known view. Now set the amount of money you want to invest in LTC CFDs. Furthermore you have to adjust the “lever multiplier X2. Currently, eToro does not offer a larger lever yet. You should then adjust your stop-loss limits and take-profit settings to minimize your risk in the Litecoin trade. Once you have made these settings, you can open the trade.
Stop Loss means that your trade closes as soon as LTC reaches a market price or money amount you have set.Take Profit determines when your trade is automatically closed. This happens when the amount you want to win has been reached.In addition, eToro charges so-called “overnight fees”, also known as rollover fees. This will be indicated to you again via a popup.
Risk warning: 75% of retail CFD accounts lose money when trading CFDs from this provider.
The eToro Litecoin Wallet
Since March 2019 eToro offers a mobile wallet on which different cryptocurrencies, including Litecoin, can be managed. The app makes it possible to continue to remove the “real” Litecoin from the exchange and send it to your own wallet. The eToro Litecoin Wallet is equipped with many functions that make it versatile. You can use the mobile wallet to send your Litecoins to your hardware wallet, e.g. the Ledger Nano X. In addition, the wallet offers the following additional functions:
- a crypto-to-crypto exchange
- Payment in some shops that accept Bitcoin
- make deposits
The app is available for both the Google Play Store and iOS. Before you follow these instructions further, you should download the app. Once you have successfully downloaded and installed the app, you can now transfer your Litecoins to your mobile eToro Wallet. To do this, click on the “Settings” icon in the “Portfolio” window. Under “invested” you then have the possibility to “transfer to the wallet”.
IMPORTANT: You can only transfer your Litecoins to the eToro wallet and not another wallet (e.g. Electrum or a hardware wallet)! You can only send your Litecoin to the Exodus Wallet or to the Trezor Model T from the mobile Wallet.
The transfer to the mobile wallet may take up to one business day until the transfer has been processed by eToro. Afterwards it can take a few hours until your Litecoin is displayed in your wallet, because the transaction has to be executed in the Litecoin blockchain. Until then, the transaction will appear as a “pending transfer” in the portfolio. eToro will charge a transfer fee for this process.
Minimum Deposits and Processing Fees
When trading on eToro, you need to be aware of the following:
- All trading accounts are in US dollars. That’s why your deposit will be converted into US dollars immediately. This is done at the current exchange rate, but please note that there is a conversion fee.
- The minimum deposit for all deposits other than the first deposit must be at least USD 50. A minimum of 500 USD is required for deposits made by bank transfer.
- A withdrawal handling fee will be charged for withdrawals. You will see the respective withdrawal fee in the cashier area after you have entered the withdrawal amount. For payouts greater than 50 USD, this is 25 USD.
Is eToro safe and recommendable?
From our point of view, this question is very important because the management of private keys is delegated to a broker. The user gives the control over his own assets to a third party, here: eToro! This makes it all the more important that the broker is reputable and trustworthy.
This can be clearly affirmed with eToro. As a rule, customer deposits are always well secured when the respective broker is supervised by a regulatory authority. EToro is immediately controlled by supervisory authorities that are considered very accurate and strict in flare trips:
- CySEC: As eToro has part of its registered office in Cyprus, the Cypriot CySEC is responsible for monitoring.
- FCA: As eToro has also established a subsidiary in the UK, FCA in the UK is also responsible for the control of eToro.
Furthermore, the broker actively protects the customer deposits by managing them separately from the company assets. Even if eToro were to become insolvent, its customers’ money would not be included in the insolvency assets.

Buy Litecoin on Coinmama
The trading platform was founded in Israel in 2013 and is still based there today. Cryptocurrencies like the Litecoin can be bought via Coinmama directly with the currency Euro. Buy Litecoin on Binance
This last exchange, which we present to you here, is one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world. The name is intended to describe the connection between technology and the financial world, i.e. it consists of “binary” and “finance”. Binance was founded in July 2017 and, with up to 1.4 million orders per second, is one of the fastest stock exchanges.
You have two different ways to buy Litecoin:
- You buy Litecoin by credit card
- You trade Litecoin against BTC, ETH, XRP or USDT
First we show you how you can buy Litecoin with your credit card easily and quickly.
Create an Account on Binance
Creating your account with Binance is free and very quick. The platform only needs your email address, a secure password and a puzzle to be moved to the right place. Then you have to confirm your e-mail address again with the help of a confirmation link.
For increased security, you can also activate “Two Factor Authentication” or protect your Binance account with SMS authentication. This can be found under the menu item Account and in the Google Authentication area. The Google App is available in the App- and Playstore and is available as a free download.
The authentication code is required before each login and protects against unauthorized access. Scan the QR code with your smartphone and enter the appearing numeric code in the corresponding window. However, authentication by SMS is only possible with a Chinese mobile phone number.
Buy Litecoin with credit card
First click on “Funds” and then on “Buy with Credit Card”. Now you will be redirected to this view:
Binance works with Simplex to make the purchase quick and easy. The purchasing process is self-explanatory, but we have nevertheless summarized the most important steps:
- Select LTC and the currency you want to pay with
- Fill in the fields of the personal data
- Verify your email and phone number with a code
- Go back to the homepage, you will be redirected automatically
- Enter your credit card details
- Upload your documents to verify your identity (e.g. the front and back of your passport)
The provider Simplex has the following special features:
- The given Litecoin amount is based on the current price and is not final, but will be calculated later! However, if the rate changes by more than +/-2.5%, you will be asked to reconfirm the transaction by email from Simplex.
- Once the payment is complete, you can check your payment status and deposit history on Simplex.
- The Simplex fee is 3.5% per transaction or USD 10, whichever is higher.
- The daily limit is 20,000 USD per user. The monthly limit is 50,000 USD per user.
- The minimum amount (the minimum) for a transaction is currently USD 50.
Purchase limits on Binance
You can use all functions without verification and have a purchase limit of two Bitcoins per day. If you verify yourself, you can trade up to 100 BTC per day.
Buy Litecoin with Ethereum
If you already own Ether, you can send it immediately to the address of the Binance Wallet. Otherwise you can buy Ether quickly and easily on LiteBit. When purchasing, you can enter the wallet address of Binance so that the Ethers can be sent directly to Binance. You will find the address of your wallet at Binance, which you must enter when purchasing ether at LiteBit, when you are registered at Binance.
Then click first on “Funds” and then on “Balances”. Now you can enter ETH in the search field and go to “Deposits”. After that you will see the payment address for Ether. Enter this on LiteBit or your wallet as receiving address.
Once ETH has been transferred to your Binance wallet, you can immediately start trading ETH for Litecoin. To do this, click on the Binance logo in the upper left corner, click on “Exchange” and then on “Basic”. On the ALTS Markets page, select Litecoin and LTC/ETH.
Now enter in the left field “Buy LTC” the “amount” how much LTC you want to buy. The price for an LTC in ETH can be seen above. In the bottom line (“Total”) you can see how much ETH your LTC will cost. Also select the “Market” option. You can also use “Limit” and “Stop-Limit”.
A limit order is an order placed in the order book at a limit price you specify. This means that the trade will only be executed when the market price reaches your limit price. If the market price does not reach the price you set, the limit order remains open. You can delete them at any time. A “limit” order should therefore be used whenever you are not in a hurry. Because it can happen that your limit order is not executed and therefore remains open and is only fulfilled at a later point in time.
In contrast, a “market” order is executed immediately at the current market price. Accordingly, the “Market” order is particularly suitable for beginners and investors who want to sell or buy quickly. By clicking on “Buy LTC” your order will be processed directly and after a few seconds your Litecoin units will be in the wallet.
Normally within a few seconds you will see the Litecoin units on your Binance Wallet. Although Binance is considered very safe, we recommend that you move your Litecoin to an external wallet. A hardware wallet or the Exodus Wallet, which we have already introduced to you above, are suitable for this.
In May 2019, Binance was the victim of a hack in which 7,000 BTC were stolen. Even if this is a one-time event, it is recommended to move your Litecoin to an external wallet if you do not deal with it daily.
