- FC Barcelona to launch a fan token on the Ethereum based blockchain platform Chiliz.
- The Barça Fan token will be an ERC-20 token and will give its owners the right to participate in surveys and win prizes from FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona partnered with the blockchain platform based on Ethereum Chiliz. According to a press release on February 13, the football club is looking to give its fans more involvement. Therefore, they will launch the Barça Fan token that will allow their owners to participate in surveys and win exclusive FC Barcelona prizes. They will also be able to earn points to access these prizes, depending on the participation of the fan.
The cooperation will also involve Socios.com, a voting platform associated with Chiliz. As reported by FC Barcelona, the team’s fans will be able to acquire the tokens in different ways. By making a purchase through Socios.com using a method known as Fan Token Offering or by participating in a platform feature called Token Hunt. Barcelona fans will also have access to Chiliz’s native token, $CHZ.
The agreement was made official at an event on the team’s soccer field, the Camp Nou. In addition, it was known that this is the first FC Barcelona agreement related to the blockchain sector:

The Barça Fan Tokens will be known as $BAR on Barcelona’s partner platform, Socios.com. The club has confirmed that the tokens will be launched in the second quarter of this year and will have a total supply of 40 million $BAR. The initial price of each token will be 2€.
FC Barcelona Board Member and Head of Commercial Area, Josep Pont, said he was proud of the new partnership with Chiliz. He added that he hopes that FC Barcelona will get closer to their fans with this agreement and that they will be able to develop new innovative actions in the marketing area. Pont said:
This agreement also forms part of FC Barcelona’s goal to become associated with leading brands that can help us consolidate our new commercial and digital strategy, with the development of new streams for the generation of resources helping to make us a benchmark both on and off the field.
Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO and Founder of Socios.com and Chiliz also issued statements on the agreement. Dreyfus said he was pleased and welcomed FC Barcelona to the Chiliz blockchain platform. The founder of Chiliz added:

Ethereum at the center of Sports Cooperation
On the other hand, one of FC Barcelona’s rivals will also use Ethereum as part of a gift to their fans. Paris Saint Germain (PSG) also partnered with Socios.com in October 2018 to work on the creation of a token. As reported by CNF, on January 28, PSG started the first official token sale some days ago.
The tokens are sold at the same price as the $BAR, 2 euros and will have a supply of 20 million tokens. The PSG token will have similar functions to those of FC Barcelona and will seek to increase fan participation in PSG activities.
