- Ripple is working with the Australian National University to offer two new blockchain courses.
- Ripple’s development division, Xpring, has announced the integration of interledger STREAM.
The Australian National University (ANU) will soon introduce two new Master’s programmes in Law and Blockchain, with significant support from the Ripple Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). UBRI was founded by Ripple in 2018 and supports elite universities around the world in training tomorrow’s leaders in the blockchain domain. Two new blockchain study courses are to be created through the collaboration.
During the courses, students will identify a specific legal problem and then develop technological solutions based on the blockchain and evaluate its actual usability. This is intended to ensure interdisciplinary education and training.
Scott Chamberlain leads the research in the blockchain area of the ANU Law School and focuses on the impact of blockchain technology on the legal field and other related disciplines. In his opinion, simple legal processes, such as identity verification, will increasingly be implemented using automated blockchain solutions in the near future.
According to Chamberlein, the aim is not to replace the legal profession, but to fully exploit the possibilities and potential of blockchain and use the technology for a decentralized and more democratic legal practice:
This is not about getting rid of lawyers or eliminating jobs. There will always be cases and situations that demand a higher level of expertise.
Chamberlein sees blockchain technology and the use of smart contracts as effective ways to offer routine solutions that normally do not require legal advice. By financially supporting UBRI, he hopes to give people the opportunity to save money in the long run, as simple legal issues can be solved by using the blockchain.
Xpring integrates STREAM
Last year in December Warren Paul Anderson announced the launch of the developer platform xpring.io. On the website, developers will find numerous tools, a wallet and other services as well as documentation of all ongoing and completed projects. Today, the Ripple-funded investment company has announced another innovation.
Since yesterday, the Xpring wallet supports the interledger protocol (ILP) STREAM, which allows developers to integrate streaming payments into their apps by using test network XRP (Faux Money). This new service is designed to simplify the transport of assets and messages in real time by using ILP.
An ILP streaming payment begins with the establishment of a connection via HTTPS between a STREAM client and a server. The packets are exchanged, authenticated and encrypted between the two parties. STREAM thus enables the sending of money and data in real time under secure conditions.
Additionally, developers can use GitHub to access the Xpring wallet to manage addresses, send and receive XRP over the ILP test network, confirm transactions, and check account balances. To integrate STREAM into current apps, you only need to add 23 lines of code. It is important to use the latest version of the Xpring SDK.
The Xpring SDK will also support JavaScript, Java and Swift. Finally, interoperability has been created for the Python, Go and Rust and Ruby programming languages.
