- Ripple and Peersyst are developing the XRP Ledger EVM sidechain, which is currently in DevNet, using evmOS, a modular tech stack built on the Cosmos SDK.
- XRPL joins the interchain, an ecosystem of over 90 interconnected blockchains and gains access to all Cosmos SDK chains, opening up access to hundreds of apps for XRP holders.
Interoperability will be one of the critical factors that will determine the success of any blockchain network in the future; in this regard, the XRP Ledger (XRPL) has taken a significant stride, building its EVM sidechain using the Cosmos SDK, giving it a direct connection to nearly 100 interconnected networks and thousands of dApps.
Ripple partnered with Evmos on the project and will be building the sidechain using evmOS. This customizable and modular tech stack enables full compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine on top of the Cosmos SDK.

Ripple and Cosmos have been collaborating for months. As Crypto News Flash reported earlier this year, a new bridge by Coreum allowed users to transfer assets from XRPL to the Cosmos ecosystem.
This time, their collaboration is built on the evmOS. The ready-to-launch tech stack has several features geared towards EVM implementation, including access to the dApp store, IBC functionality, EVM extensions and more.
Built with the Cosmos SDK and running on the CometBFT consensus engine, it enables the development of native, cross-chain applications. According to its developers, it will “offer XRPL developers unseen flexibility in expanding the XRPL EVM sidechain on their terms.”
XRP Ledger Joins the Cosmos Interchain With EVM Implementation
The XRPL EVM sidechain will leverage the evmOS to join the Interchain, an ever-expanding ecosystem of interconnected blockchains and dApps launched by Cosmos. This will offer XRPL users access to thousands of networks, dApps and other Web3 apps in over 90 interlinked blockchains. With the implementation, the XRP Ledger community will have a “passport to all Cosmos SDK chains, allowing its users to interact with any applications they need seamlessly.”
Commenting on the integration, Ripple’s Head of DeFi Products, Jasmine Cooper, described it as a “significant milestone in expanding the XRPL ecosystem.”
She added:
By leveraging the evmOS technology, we can offer developers unparalleled flexibility and customization options, enabling them to build innovative cross-chain applications that tap into the vast potential of the XRPL and the broader interchain ecosystem. We believe utilizing evmOS will accelerate the growth of the XRPL EVM sidechain and unlock new opportunities for developers and users.
Beyond interacting with other networks in the Interchain, the XRPL EVM sidechain will also receive additional interoperability through evmOS Outposts. These gateways connect blockchains without complexity for the final user. For instance, XRPL users can make seamless swaps on Osmosis, a DEX on Cosmos, without switching wallets.
Federico Kunze Kullmer, the Evmos founder, commented that he’s excited “to bring the XRPL ecosystem to Cosmos via this partnership that will benefit the entire ecosystem.”
Cosmos traded at $8.66, gaining 3.7% in the past day, while XRP gained 1.3% to trade at $0.5239.
