IOTA-Powered Search Engine Emerges as a Google Competitor, Harnessing Superior Tangle Technology to Combat AI Misuse

  • Search engine leverages IOTA Tangle technology to combat the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Xayn is much faster than LLMs like OpenAI’s ChatGPT as it learns from small chunks of data which helps them produce results much faster.

Generative AI has taken the center-stage as the next major tech revolution that currently happening. Solutions like OpenAI’s ChatGPT have stormed the tech world highlighting new capabilities of online tools.

Although generative AI brings a ton of benefits to users, some companies have also expressed concerns over the risks surrounding it. IOTA-powered search engine Xayn is currently looking to compete against giants like AI. Interestingly, it plans to leverage IOTA’s Tangle technology in order to combat the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI).

Based out of Berlin, Germany, Xayn is a 6-year-old company founded by Leif-Nissen Lundbaek. It specializes in semantic search that allows people to use natural language to find information, as well as on recommendation engines that suggest content to consumers.

Lundbaek explains how ultra-large language models like ChatGPT 4 and Google PaLM are tools not suitable for companies to use. He believes that huge LLMs aren’t the most efficient approach in energy efficiency, cost, speed, or even data privacy.

This is exactly where Xayn comes to the rescue of the users. They have pioneered a suite of much smaller models that are better at learning from small chunks of data which helps them produce results much faster than a large language model.

Xayn’s models are small enough to run on mobile phones instead of requiring a connection to a model running in a data center.

How Xayn Helps Fight AI Misuse Using DLT

Xayn has its own recommendation software Xaynia which has helped a media company ZDF in increasing the volume of digital content that users watched as well as the click-through rate. More importantly, it has helped reduce energy consumption by a staggering 98 percent.

Lunbaek said that compared to OpenAI’s latest information embedding model dubbed Ada 002, Xaynia delivers 40 times better energy performance. Furthermore, Xaynia’s model is entitled based on content which helps in addressing data privacy concerns to a great extent. IOTA co-founder Dominik Schiner also praised the recent developments.

To fight the misuse of AI Xayn has incorporated IOTA’s Tangle technology “to record the hash of the decrypted aggregated AI model that was computed in a round of federated learning”. This places greater control in the hands of the users.

Xayn is working on extending its Xaynet framework to make the Xaynet coordinator decentralized thereby ensuring that its legal compliance, robustness, and resiliency – are being maintained.
