  • The IOTA Foundation joins the CHAISE consortium to help shape Europe’s blockchain skills strategy.
  • The Construction Blockchain Consortium (CBC) is hosting an online coding workshop on smart cities development on the Tangle.

The IOTA Foundation has joined the CHAISE consortium to help develop Europe’s blockchain skills strategy. In a blog post, the foundation shared that the inclusion is 100% funded by the ERASMUS+ program over the four-year period and aims to expand the IOTA ecosystem.

Faced with a pan-European shortage of blockchain expertise, the CHAISE consortium was tasked by the European Commission to develop a roadmap for increasing blockchain education and jobs in the European Union. CHAISE will therefore propose an open, inclusive blockchain skills governance system “to address skills mismatches and deliver appropriate training, information provision and solutions.”

The consortium is also developing a certified training program for blockchain and DLTs, as well as the first “blockchain specialist” occupational profile. In addition, all learning materials developed as part of the project will be compiled in an open online course.

Led by Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL), the consortium consists of over 170 European and global leaders in Blockchain and DLTs, including academic and industrial partners as well as sector organizations and communities, such as INATBA, Fujitsu and the European Digital SME Alliance.

As stated in IOTA’s blog post, the IOTA Foundation hopes to “extend the work to our diverse ecosystem to collect and reflect the needs of our valued partners to ensure targeted, high quality educational resources on the intersection of Distributed Ledger and Internet of Things Technologies.” Holger Köther, Director of Partnerships at IOTA Foundation, added:

We at the IOTA Foundation strive to not only develop the most empowering open-source DLT technology stack out there, but also actively contribute to the successful application of our technology across societal domains. For this reason, we are delighted to join leading organizations from both the field of vocational education, and DLT industry leaders to jointly strengthen the leading role of the European Union in realizing the potential of distributed technologies.

Construction Blockchain Consortium to hold coding workshop

In other news, the Construction Blockchain Consortium (CBC) announced an online coding workshop for March 30 that will focus on practically demonstrating how the IOTA Tangle can be used to develop smart cities. Attendance is free. It will be streamed via Eventbrite.

The CBC was established “was established to develop knowledge transfer, arrange commercial and academic presentations, assess and test commercial services and technology, conduct research, and drive policy, regulation and understanding of the consequences of Blockchain and other emerging technologies in the Built Environment.”

In addition, CBC is also exploring the development of open source tools on behalf of industry and encouraging application developers to develop their own technologies and services to deliver sustainable building solutions.

The consortium is led by UCL’s Department of Computer Science and The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, with members including well-known companies such as Alpha Corp, Arcadis Arup Group, Autodesk, Bentley, Big Innovation Centre, Hyperledger, IBM, The Linux Foundation, Mace Mishcon de Reya, NBS Scape Group, Siemens, Skanska, UCL, Turner & Townsend, and Zaha Hadid, among others.
