Flare, an interoperable blockchain network has announced a huge partnership with ed-tech startup Uppercent to launch a unique marketplace powered by Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). The marketplace focuses on education and has been designed to enable users to unlock access to high-quality online courses. According to the report, NFTs issued on the flare would be used as access passes.
Flare exists as an EVM-based Layer 1 blockchain. Its plan has always been to enable developers to build applications that can use data from other chains and the internet. As stated in the partnership agreement, members on the Uppercent platform can sell, buy, and trade access passes to exclusive courses by Uppercent instructors. It is important to note that these instructors have different backgrounds and are composed of social media stars, Forbes 30 under 30 entrepreneurs, and top business & mindset trainers. Members would have the opportunity to listen to some of the lessons these instructors have learned on their journey to the top. This will include varieties of vocational skills such as entrepreneurship, social media, and mindset.
Flare Co-Founder & CEO, Hugo Philion commented on this:
We’re excited Uppercent has chosen Flare as the blockchain to power web3 functionality for the next generation of edtech products. As firm believers in the potential for NFTs and the importance of high-quality user-generated content, we look forward to enabling the Uppercent team to use Flare to push the boundaries of UX and utility in the online education market.
Access passes would be available on Uppercent after the official launch
The announcement discloses that the platform would be rolled out in phases. In the first phase, students would be allowed to log in to their accounts and register for the upcoming courses. Later in the year, the platform would be officially launched. However, the first courses and the instructors set to start would be announced in late March. After the launch, buying, and selling of access passes to courses on the Uppercent marketplace would commence.
Uppercent Founder & CEO, Jake Lee also expressed his excitement for this partnership.
We’re delighted that Flare has joined our journey towards bridging E-learning from web2 to web3 with the ambition to rebuild the e-learning ecosystem and provide more value to all stakeholders. Flare’s interoperability protocols, and particularly the State Connector will be a huge help in enabling us to build the first secondary market for E-learning.
This is quite interesting as the Uppercent platform is full of like-minded individuals seeking to develop themselves intellectually. Interestingly, the marketplace is focused on sharing knowledge and giving access to courses. For now, those who join the project’s Discord community before the official launch would have free membership.
Uppercent’s operation seeks to offset the many challenges of traditional students’ learning. In addition to the expensive textbooks that are difficult to resell, it is very costly to access. The idea to address this is to create a secondary market for access passes and democratize learning.
In pioneering a secondary market for education, Uppercent is reimagining e-learning to enable students and educators to receive more value.
