- Ethereum marks 10 years with a special NFT called the Ethereum Torch, passed between community members.
- Over 100 global events are on schedule to celebrate Ethereum’s impact on finance, digital art, and technology since its launch in 2015.
Leading decentralized blockchain platform Ethereum is marking 10 years since it launched on July 30, 2015. To celebrate, more than 100 community events are happening, along with a special NFT called the Ethereum Torch.
Over the years, Ethereum has evolved into a platform where people can do everything from sending money to creating online art. It has helped change how people use the internet and build new things.
A Look Back at Ethereum’s Key Moments
It is worth noting that Ethereum began in July 2015 when its first block was created. The innovation gave developers a novel way to build projects online through smart contracts. These smart contracts are simple codes that carry out instructions without needing a company or a middleman.
This made people see the internet differently, especially when it comes to money, services, and ownership.
Later that same year, DAI was launched. It was the first stablecoin controlled by a decentralized group rather than a single company. Then, in 2017, CryptoKitties became one of the first NFT projects to draw global attention. People could buy and trade digital cats, demonstrating that blockchain has applications beyond finance.
In 2020, interest in DeFi (decentralized finance) took off. People began using Ethereum apps to lend, borrow, and earn, without using banks. In 2022, Ethereum made a major change known as the Merge. It switched from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake, cutting down energy use by more than 99%.
More importantly, in May 2024, Ethereum reached another big step with the launch of spot ETH ETFs. As mentioned in our previous article, by May 2025, the Pectra upgrade had been added, bringing improvements for users and developers alike.
The Ethereum Torch and Global Community Events
It is important to add that as part of the anniversary, a special digital item called the Ethereum Torch is being passed from person to person in the community.
As disclosed, each person will hold it for 24 hours before sending it to someone else. It will be destroyed on July 30, marking the end of its journey. The idea behind the torch is to show how Ethereum’s growth has been shaped by many hands across the world.
More than 100 events are being held to mark this anniversary. These events are taking place in different countries, demonstrating the widespread adoption of Ethereum since its inception. From developers to artists to people using apps every day, the events bring the Ethereum community together to look back at the journey so far.
If anything, Ethereum has gone from an idea in a Whitepaper to a global tool used for trading, saving, gaming, and more. Ten years in, it continues to grow and change, with the support of its users around the world.
Meanwhile, as Ethereum celebrates its 10th year, CNF reported that eToro plans to launch tokenized US stocks on the Ethereum network. This is part of eToro’s efforts to expand its tokenization plans.
