What is Polygon?

Polygon (formerly Matic Network) was launched in October 2017. Polygon was co-founded by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal and Anurag Arjun, two experienced blockchain developers and a business consultant. Polygon (MATIC) is an Ethereum protocol that aims “to create, issue, and manage digital securities on the blockchain.” By creating a compliance-focused standard (ST-20) to issue and manage security tokens, Polymath seeks to “tokenize and trade traditional and new classes of assets.” Polygon is a protocol and a framework for building and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks
Polygon (formerly known as MATIC) is an Indian blockchain scalability platform called 'the Ethereum's Internet of Blockchains'. ... And it aims to create a multi-chain ecosystem of ethereum compatible blockchains. Originally, the project began as the MATIC Network. Later it was rebranded as Polygon when its scope expanded. Polygon was formerly called Matic Network. Polygon (MATIC) is an Ethereum token that powers the Polygon Network, a scaling solution for Ethereum. 1 MATIC in Dollar is worth $0.9199 as of July, 2021. MATIC tokens are released on a monthly basis. MATIC currently has a circulating supply of 4,877,830,774 MATIC tokens and a max supply of 10,000,000,000 MATIC tokens.
Rather than being a simple scaling solution like its predecessor Matic Network—which uses a technology known as Plasma to process transactions off-chain before finalizing them on the Ethereum main chain—Polygon is designed to be an entire platform designed for launching interoperable blockchains. Through Polygon, developers can launch preset blockchain networks with attributes tailored to their needs. These can be further customized with a growing range of modules, which allow developers to create sovereign blockchains with more specific functionality. Chains launched on Polygon are capable of communicating both with one another and with the Ethereum main chain thanks to Polygon's arbitrary message passing capabilities. This will enable a variety of new use-cases, such as interoperable decentralized applications (dapps) and the simple exchange of value between diverse platforms. MATIC is popular among online exchanges focused on DeFi. The top exchanges where you can buy, sell, and trade MATIC currently include UniSwap, Binance, Coinbase Pro, Huobi Global, Gemini, BinanceUS, BiONE, and ZebPay among others.
