What is Polkadot?

Polkadot was founded in 2016 by Gavin Wood, former Co-Founder and CTO of Ethereum. Polkadot's technology addresses the major issues that have stymied blockchain adoption in recent years. Dr. Gavin Wood, who was Ethereum's Chief Technology Officer before he moved on to co-found Polkadot. The other two co-founders, Robert Habermeier and Peter Czaban, also have great crypto credentials and solid backgrounds in cryptography and distributed technology.
Polkadot is a shared protocol that enables blockchain networks to operate together. Polkadot is an open-source project founded by the Web3 Foundation. Polkadot is a platform that allows diverse blockchains to transfer messages, including value, in a trust-free fashion; sharing their unique features while pooling their security. In brief, Polkadot is a scalable, heterogeneous, multi-chain technology. Polkadot is heterogeneous because it is entirely flexible and makes no assumptions about the nature or structure of the chains in the network. Even non-blockchain systems or data structures can become parachains if they fulfill a set of criteria. Polkadot may be considered equivalent to a set of independent chains (e.g. a set containing Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Namecoin and Bitcoin) except with important additions: pooled security and trust-free interchain transactability
The Polkadot coin (DOT) serves three distinct purposes: governance over the network, staking, and bonding. The price of 1 DOT to Dollar is $13.08 as of July, 2021.The easiest way to buy and sell Polkadot today is on Coinbase or BinanceUS.
Now is the right time to invest in Polkadot. Polkadot has quickly become one of the well-known cryptocurrencies, especially since 2020. Moreover, it is also viewed as a promising blockchain that can take over Ether's dominance in 2021.
Transactions can be spread out across the chains, allowing many more transactions to be processed in the same period of time. Polkadot ensures that the security of all blockchains in the network is robust and that any dealings between them are faithfully executed. All parachains share security and state, meaning if one chain has a message reverted, all chains get reverted. It is also possible for independent chains with their own validators to be linked to Polkadot via bridges, thereby foregoing Polkadot’s shared state and security system. Polkadot allows developers to launch chains and applications leveraging a shared security model, without having to worry about attracting enough miners or validators to secure their own chains. Polkadot's parachains can use bridges to connect with external networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
